New Controls in Penteo Pro+’s Upmix Decorrelation Suite

Remove or Preserve Left/Right

Automatically removes or reincorporates the input L/R into any output audio format and redistributes the remaining soundfield between the upmixed channels.. All Surround, Atmos and Immersive audio formats can be Stem L/R bypassed. Every upmix downmixes 100% ITU to any input format.

Preserve or Override ITU Downmix

Every Stem Bypass downmixes 100% ITU to source, but often creative mixing goals supersede the need for downmix compatibility.  When Preserve ITU is deactivated, all controls are enabled for full downmix creativity.  Any downmix incompatibility is indicated on Penteo’s ITU Downmix Monitor.

Upmix via Intermediary Formats

Use alternative immersive audio formats - such as 360RA or Octophonic Cube - as an intermediary using Penteo's phaseless DSP to shape the upmix before incorporating into Atmos formats.  Use solo and mute to isolate decorrelated channels, every upmix downmixes 100% ITU to any input format.

Decorrelate Rear Channels Forward

Keep immersive reverbs & delays / other sounds from entering the rear channels. Bypass removes the Lsr/Rsr and redistributes the remaining soundfield between the upmixed channels.  All formats can be Lsr/Rsr Stem Bypassed and downmix 100% ITU to any input format.

Two 100% ITU Bass Modes

Ideal for orchestral music and reverbs, Acoustic bass mode is compensated resulting in a warm, full-sounding downmix.  For pop/electronic music, Precise bass mode is not compensated resulting in a tighter, more defined, digitally precise downmix. Both modes downmix 100% ITU to any input format.

Side Channel Decorrelation

Create space between vocals & music & enhance spatial perception using Side Stem Bypass which removes the Lss/Rss, redistributing the soundfield between the remaining upmixed channels.  All audio formats can be bypassed and every upmix downmixes 100% ITU to any input format.

Minimal Size

Minimal reduces plugin size by 60% to free up screen-space for big sessions yet still offers full access to monitor and control all of Penteo’s key operations. When Minimal is enabled, the Penteo Visualizer and Mute/Solo are disabled.

3-Level Independant Diffuse

Add a Rear, Upper or Bottom diffuse effect post-upmix to create the impression of increased ambience at the expense of signal definition & channel separation. Any downmix impact is indicated on Penteo’s  ITU Downmix Monitor.

5 Independent Faders

Take precise independent or multi-link control over the Center, Side, Rear, Overhead and Bottom channel energy. Any energy added or deleted is re-balanced across the entire surround bed ensuring 100% ITU downmix compatibility.

Legacy Upmix DSP

Legacy phaseless DSP is optimized for Stereo to Surround upmixing. Legacy DSP also matches the DSP found in Penteo 7 Pro Suite ensuring continuity for legacy Penteo sessions.   Penteo automatically assigns Legacy DSP to all Surround upmixes.

Left / Right Sweep

Creatively shape the L / R upmix components. Sweep the audio in around the listener on all axes when automated with front / surround / upper / bottom balance controls. Any downmix impact is indicated on Penteo’s ITU Downmix Monitor.

3 Upper Sound Modes

Shape overhead channel energy with four sound modes: Low for ambience &  transients, Raise to create spaciousness, Max for overhead emphasis and Master Mute saving time versus muting channels individually.

3-Level Visualizer

Visualize channel strength and see how signals combine around the listener in 3D across all axes at the same time.  Or, see sound separation visually with even more detail using a dual 2D / 3D  view for Surround, Upper and Bottom levels.

4 Center Modes

Take complete control over center energy with four sound modes – Default Music, Discrete,  Composite and Phantom  Each mode processes the center channel differently for creative widening or narrowing effects.

Drop VOX

Enabling Drop Vox isolates the majority of dialog from the overhead channels by eliminating the center channel sound energy component from the overhead channels.

Low Latency Mode

Every Penteo upmix is processed uniquely depending on the original mix. A short preview identifies discrete audio components before the upmix DSP. Low Latency mode shortens the preview lowering overall latency.

Center Mono-like Sounds

Automatically isolates and centers mono-like stereo inputs overriding the normal upmix process.  Use Autodetect Mono with center fader and center modes together to rebalance the soundfield.

Decorrelated Upmix DSP

Decorrelated phaseless DSP is optimized for 2 or 3 level immersive sound formats above 7.1 Surround but can be used on any format.  Whenever an immersive format beyond 7.1 is selected, Decorrelated DSP is automatically selectect.  

3-Level Independant Shelf

Rolls off frequencies from the Rear, Upper or Bottom channels post-upmix.  Shelf filters preserve a warm, natural sound & are ideal for creating airiness in vocals, enhancing tonal balance and mix clarity.  Any Rear filder downmix incompatibility is indicated on Penteo’s ITU Downmix Monitor.

Boost

Boost creates the acoustic effect of pinning the rear channels forward with the front sound stage.  Side surround energy is increased by reducing the rear channels with no loss of downmix integrity.

 

Overhead Tilt

Tilt mode shifts upper channel energy from rear to forward channels which is useful when needing to spatially focus overhead channels for greater sonic impact.

ITU Downmix Monitor

When post-upmix controls are enabled, any ITU downmix compatibly is displayed in percentage and in red. Pressing ‘Perfect’ removes all settings, restoring 100% ITU downmix.

LFE Controls

Take complete control over LFE with frequency crossover settings, Boost/Split for how LF energy is removed from the main channels, & Diverge to avoid center channel overload.  All settings downmix 100% ITU.

Universal Music Group Atmos Presets

Get a fast-start any stem upmix for Universal Music Group’s Dolby Atmos Music Delivery spec V1.1.2022.  Penteo’s UMG Atmos Presets automate the selected 7.1.2 / 7.1.4 / 9.1.2 / 9.1.4 / 9.1.6 Atmos formats with the Phantom center and LFE cutoff.
